It is getting to be that time of the year where you see all these great deals on new laptops and computers and gadgets. Is it time to replace your 3 years old plus laptop or get it repaired? Well I have had to answer that question quite a bit recently. Many people have brought me their laptop or PC where the repair was just under the price of a cheap laptop or PC. After explaining that repairing it could fix it for a year or two they are then posed with the decision of whether to pay the money for the repair and risk it breaking again before they can purchase a new one or just to buy the new one now. My suggestion is usually to purchase a new laptop or PC because of how computers are dated after a year or two.

Don’t get me wrong, I love stretching my money as far as it will go with a computer, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and invest in new hardware.

My recommendation is not to purchase anything HP or Compaq. Almost all the computers I have worked on in the past year are HP. Turns out that HP has been purposely ignoring major flaws with their computer hardware because the parts don’t go bad until after the warranty date. If you are in the market for a new laptop you need to do some serious shopping around.

My top choices for laptops are as follows:
1. Lenovo
2. Toshiba
3. Asus
4. Dell

Lenovos can be a bit pricey depending on the package you select but it is worth the money. Toshibas are probably my top pick for average home laptop user.
